The exit from New York for long-time head coach Tom Coughlin was not how I imagined it to be. I never thought I would see him step down, I was waiting for him to retire. I especially never thought he would interview with the Eagles- he was just too synonymous with that New York blue. Coughlin appeared on Jay Mohr Sports and spoke about his exit.
Quotes from CBS Sports:
“Hey, do I agree with the move? Of course not. I don’t. It hurts, it hurts. ‘Former’ is not a good word. I don’t like the word. But, nevertheless, that’s the way it is.”
As many speculated, this was not a mutual parting. It sounds like they told him if he didn’t step down, he would be fired. Which leaves the door open for a possible return to the NFL for the Super Bowl winning head coach. He sounds like he feels like he has something to give. Maybe not this year, but after his interview with the Eagles, I’m never saying never.
