Chris Algieri is no stranger to the ring. In fact, he’s quite a familiar face. You find yourself rooting for him and then in other instances, you can’t help but want his opponent to win. In addition to not being a stranger to the ring, he’s quite familiar with the Barclays Center.
On Saturday April 16, he is set to face off against Errol Spence Jr at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
I know Spence Jr vs Algieri is headlining the match but the undercard matches are also going to be great to watch. You have the cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Glowacki and former champion Steven “U.S.S” Cunningham going head to head. On the other hand, the undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne and unbeaten light heavyweight Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic, who are going to bring heat to the ring in their match.
If you’ve been keeping up with Algieri’s record, at this point in his career, he can’t afford another loss. He is currently 21-2 meanwhile Spence Jr is at 19-0. His match against Khan was brutal. Who has the most at stake here? If you ask me, Algieri does. Many have said that he’s not being taken serious or respected. That’s something that he also weighed in while at the press conference.
“I don’t think I’ve gotten as much respect as I deserve throughout my career. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day I go out there and perform. More often then not I’m victorious.”
Algieri had a grueling training camp and he’s ready to put this behind him. However, Spence Jr knows his opponent very well.
“Chris has been in a lot of hard fights. At the end of the day he’s a boxer and so am I. It’s going to be a war.”
He has studied the ins and outs of Chris Algieri and is prepared for fight night. Spence Jr has been getting it in at his training camp and promises to put on a show. His tactics are also going to start from the very beginning, Round 1.
“I never thought fight week would come. I’m just so excited to put on a show. It’s going to be the best Errol Spence you’ve ever seen. I just need to stick with my game plan. The game plan that my coach laid out for me and do what I do and get the win. Whatever happens, happens. I’m going to have to feel it out in the first round. I just need to fight smart.”
