I’m sure Jeanie Buss means well, and Byron Scott is a nice guy, but I’m not sure how the former Lakers guard can remain the coach of this team.
We can talk about talent, and injuries, but the truth remains a coach who wasn’t a former Lakers great would have probably been canned by now.
Buss just gave Scott a ringing endorsement according to CBS Sports — that comes with a return from the glory years.
Believe it or not, Byron Scott has what one source described as a “major chance” to stay with the Lakers; Jeanie Buss is said to be pushing for Scott behind the scenes. If so, it could clear the way for a top-to-bottom reset for the franchise in 2017, and the possible return of Jackson to run basketball operations with Luke Walton as the coach. There are a lot of dots to be connected to get from here to there, though — not to mention a lot more games for the Lakers to lose.
I’m all for Luke Walton becoming coach at some point — the guys going to be a star on the bench some day.
Jackson may rekindle some of that zen in the lovely L.A. weather with his fiancée, but Scott staying will only lead to another summer in the lottery.
