Mike Piazza is finally making his way to the Hall of Fame this year. However, he is pretty upset with the Mets’ owners as they have auctioned his priceless 9/11 jersey.
There are many games I will not be able to forget. Mike Piazza’s home run right after the September 11 terrorist attacks is a game that will forever be engraved in my brain. His home run during that game at Shea Stadium was definitely emotional.
Piazza hasn’t forgotten about that game. I mean, who would? After his silent battle with not getting into the Hall of Fame, his dreams have come true but he is now pissed off with the Mets owners over something very priceless. Piazza has learned that his post 9/11 jersey has been auctioned off.
“I’m very disappointed with the situation regarding my game jersey from September 21st, 2001,” Piazza told the Post, his first comments regarding the auction.
“I’ve expressed my feelings to (owner) Jeff (Wilpon) and the Mets,” Piazza said. “And while it never should have left Citi Field, they have assured me that contact with the seller has been made and they are making a concerted effort to get the jersey back. I’m hopeful that an agreement can be reached and we can give back to the fans and all New Yorkers a piece of that evening that was more than just a game.”
In addition to angering their fans, Mets owners also manage to anger their players/ex-players. Hopefully the owner of this jersey has no problem in returning the jersey, just as long as they get their money back.
