Derrick Rose is facing rape allegations stemming from an incident in 2013 and while he and his lawyers prepare for a deposition in January, the requested some materials from the case. TMZ with very, very odd details:
They asked the accuser for the usual stuff — texts, photos and emails. They also asked for “any and all condoms that you retained as evidence from after the alleged rape.”
After research, it isn’t clear exactly how long evidence like that would last on a condom, but two years seems to be quite the stretch. From ForensicMag:
DNA is relatively stable. It is most likely that forensic samples collected from a rape victim will yield results: however, time factors, chemical factors (such as washing using soaps and detergents), external factors (such as temperature and humidity) and internal factors (other bodily fluids) may affect the validity of a sample. The earlier samples are collected and tested the higher the chances of yielding solid, reliable results.
It’s not known whether the condoms were kept or not, so we might not get an answer on what exactly they planned on doing with them.
