When it comes to the topic of the Redskins name, more than often, you’ll get mixed reviews. However, Congresswoman Betty McCollum blasted this new poll in which it states that the word Redskins isn’t disrespectful.
How do you feel about the name that the NFL team, the Redskins, has? It’s a topic that comes up all the time and it will probably never go away until the team changes it. In reality, if it offends someone, we have to learn how to respect their opinions and or views.
In this latest poll by The Washington Post, they surveyed 504 people in regards to the name “Redskins.” Here is what the poll found.
The poll, released Thursday, claims nine in 10 Native Americans do not find the term “Redskins” offensive. Seven out of 10 respondents said they didn’t feel the word Redskin is disrespectful to Native Americans, and eight out of 10 said they would not be offended if a non-Native American person called them a Redskin.
The poll surveyed 504 Native Americans from all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The results of this poll angered Congresswoman Betty McCollum. She released a statement.

She does make a pretty good point-“It is just as hurtful and ugly as the N-word.”
Will the name ever change? We’ll have to stay tuned to that one.
