Former Los Angeles Laker Kermit Washington has been detained by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Internal Revenue Service. On Tuesday, Washington was arrested in Los Angeles on a federal warrant related to an on-going investigation. Details are not available at the moment, but a press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City.
Washington gained infamy for being involved in one of the most violent on-court incidents in NBA history. During a 1977 game against the Rockets, Washington threw a devastating punch to the face of Rudy Tomjanovich, a Houston Rockets player at the time. According to doctors, the blow broke numerous facial bones and nearly cost Tomjanovich his life.
