After not being picked in the first two days of the draft, he figured it was probably time to leave the cave and make it to the store for some supplies. If he would have stayed he might have went undrafted, but as life usually plays it, when he broke out to the store his phone rang It was John Harbaugh- only Lewis couldn’t get reception in the grocery store. So John called his home number. Quote thanks to ESPN:
“So I get on the phone with his mom and I go, ‘Is Alex there?’ And she goes, ‘No, he’s not, may I ask who’s calling?’ ” Harbaugh said, via ESPN.com. “And I’m like, ‘Uh, it’s John Harbaugh with the Ravens.’ ”
Lewis’ mother asked how she could help.
“Well, we were hoping that Alex would become a Baltimore Raven,” Harbaugh explained. “And we’re thinking about drafting him. Is he there right now?”
Lewis was not there yet, but after a short conversation with his mother, Lewis walked back in just in time to talk to his new coach.
