If you live in San Francisco and like to get high and get your swole on, former NFL player Ricky Williams has a solution for you. Introducing Power Plant Fitness, a marijuana friendly gym set to open this fall. The gym will allow people to vape, consume edibles, and smoke on an outdoor balcony, is being launched by Williams and Jim McAlpine, founder of 420 Games, which organizes athletic events for weed lovers.
But according to McAlpine, this gym isn’t about getting high, saying:
It won’t be a place to get high and just screw around. We are focused on the athletic side, not the cannabis side.
The gym is part business venture part social campaign—an effort to push back against stigmatization of pot smokers. Ricky Williams is open in his use and admiration of cannabis and believes in its therapeutic abilities.
I was a really good football player, really good person, my teammates loved me, my coaches loved me, but my career and life were ruined because of a drug test.
Good for Ricky, and from a business standpoint this venture will do well in San Francisco. Hopefully it elevates the conversation about marijuana usage in our society to a mature nuanced level.
