In the social media world we live in, you can literally be trash and the greatest player of all-time in the span of one game.
But, the reality of the situation is no matter if you are the greatest player of all-time, an all-star or an MVP, to achieve success you are going to need help.
Steph Curry is a great player and has accomplished amazing things over these last two years in the NBA. He was the consensus best player in the NBA this year and the numbers bear that out.
He deserves all the accolades he has received. He has had an uneven postseason run, because of injuries and sometimes just bad play. As the MVP, he should be critique for bad play and no excuses should be made for him.
With that being said, all great players from time to time, will need someone to pick them up when things look the bleak. Klay Thompson was that guy last night for the Warriors. Without Klay Thompson the Warriors would be making plans for Memorial day in Vegas, not a game 7 in Oakland.
This is not unusual in sports.
Without the Denver defense, Peyton Manning would still just have one Super Ring (even the one he has was spurred on by the Colts defense and running game that year).
Michael Jordan who most would consider the GOAT, needed better teammates before he became a legend. He needed to trust the Steve Kerrs and John Paxtons of the world to make sure his 6-0 record in the Finals were complete.
If not for Chris Bosh’s rebounds and Ray Allen’s 3, LeBron would be 1-5 in the NBA Finals. The artist formerly known as Ron Artest saved Kobe from another Finals lost to Celtics.
The point should be very clear, one player no matter how great isn’t winning a championship alone. There will be many times that one player will carry his team to victories, but there will also be times where someone will have to carry him.
In Game 7 of Warriors-OKC, don’t be surprised if another player emerges as the one who helps their MVP get to the Finals.
