The Mayweather vs McGregor fight isn’t going to happen, even though it was fun to get lost in 4 hours of speculation. With that being said, a 50th fight for Floyd and the end of his retirement seems likely.
Floyd will need an opponent for his return fight and the following BOXERS make the most sense.
1. Canelo Alvarez
The possibility of Floyd ending his retirement to take a rematch with Canelo Alvarez stems on Saul’s performance against Amir Khan. If Canelo wins in a dominant fashion or Twitter Buzzing KO, he’d be a great candidate for Floyd’s 50th fight. He brings a huge Mexican following to Las Vegas that helps drive great gate profits and he’s grown into a decent PPV draw.
Mayweather set records in his first fight against Canelo, who was only 23-years-old at the time, which positions a rematch to do legit numbers.
2. Manny Pacquiao
I know, everyone says no one wants to see a Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch but I believe PPV numbers and revenue will say otherwise. Manny Pacquiao has the shoulder injury excuse to fall back on and his performance against a tough Tim Bradley is enough to make casual boxing fans believe the shoulder played a role in the outcome of the first fight.
Throw in the extra cash MGM properties will receive for charging fans to park and the jacked up prices the new T-Mobile Arena can charge; that’s the making of another half a billion dollar fight.
