3. Danny Garcia
Danny Garcia makes the most sense from a pure fighting perspective. Danny has just a few welterweight fights under his belt, he previously won titles at 140 lbs, and hasn’t shown that he’s carried any substantial power up with him. Floyd has made a habit of dancing around predictable fighters and Danny doesn’t have the unorthodox movement we’ve seen give Floyd trouble in the past.
4. Amir Khan
That’s right, Amir Khan made the list. If Khan were to beat Canelo Alvarez he’d have his choice of challenging Kell Brook at 147lbs (Khan is mandatory contender) or defending his newly acquired middleweight belt against GGG (GGG is mandatory contender).
Neither of those fighters are huge money makers, but a fight with Floyd Mayweather would be just that. It’s no secret that Khan has chased this Mayweather fight for 3 years now and a win over Canelo will be the final steeping stone to the massive payday he seeks.
5. Adrien Broner
Broner is the least likely to nail a Floyd fight but the same would’ve been said about Andre Berto last year at this time. Floyd wants a big pay-day and he can guarantee that by setting an opponent that can help sell fights. There’s no one in boxing more polarizing than Adrien Broner. His skills obviously pale in comparison to Floyd’s but his mouth and gift for gab more than hold up.
Can you imagine Floyd leaving the boxing as a hero, not the villain that made him millions, after winning his 50th fight with a KO over Broner? Now that’s a Kobe-like ending to a career.
