Lost in the madness of these Mayweather vs McGregor fight reports that are flying around is the actual amount of money it’d take to get these two fighters in the ring.
It’s realistic to assume that Floyd wouldn’t step into the ring again for anything less than 9 figures and McGregor would ask for a Pacquiao type of split, 65/35. Neither fighter is going to jeopardize their legacies, current careers and the sports reputation for anything less than a mind blowing sum.
The Sun posted the initial report of the Mayweather-McGregor negotiations and listed these figures:
Mayweather is set to earn at least £100 million ($144.8 million), while McGregor will have to settle for £7 million ($10.1 million).
The number seems in the ballpark for what Floyd would command but Conor’s figure seems low. He stood to make around $10 million fighting at UFC 200 after all was said and done, so he’d be looking for a huge purse increase to step out of his element and into Floyd’s.
While the chance of this fight occurring is small to none, the proposed splits are way off from what it’d actually take to get these two into the ring.
