Never react.
Doesn’t matter what people think of your reaction or if it is valid or not it will turn out bad for you.
Justin Timberlake is learning this lesson. It is sort of funny to me because for years Justin Timberlake was embraced by the black community, but it doesn’t take much for Twitter and social media as a whole to turn on you.
It started so simply with Timberlake being impressed by Jesse Williams’ impactful speech at the BET Awards.

Then Ernest Owens of Huffington Post accused him of appropriating black culture. For the record over the years Justin Timberlake has been very complimentary of how black music has influenced him. With that being said he did get a pass for the Janet Jackson thing because he was white.
At this point it would have been best for JT to just ignore this, but……

I understood what he is trying to say. Essentially let’s not fight each other when we are trying to battle the same thing. Meaning both he and Ernest are the same in fighting that fight that Williams spoke about in his speech.
But, it can be seen as white and black people are the same, which while biologically we are, we definitely aren’t treated the same.
Whatever the case Twitter went after JT.

JT apologized but the damage was done.
