As the world celebrates that life of the great Muhammad Ali, one Republican ex-congressman from Tennessee took the opportunity to disparage Muhammad Ali, not even one day after his death.
Ali famously and heroically defied the US government by not making himself available for the draft, citing his religious convictions, as well as the mistreatment African-Americans were receiving in his home country. Ali was eventually vindicated for his actions, but he was vilified by many people during the time he made that stand, and the below tweet brings back the same sentiment he faced in the 1960s.
Martin Daniel insulted Ali by calling him Cassius Clay, and you can see the racial overtones in the tweet with phrases like “Black Cloud”. Twitter had a strong reaction to this and definitely did not pull any punches.
For what it is worth: so far as I can tell Martin Daniel has also never enlisted in the US military. https://t.co/RFvv3kNKue

"Jesus did some good stuff but his failure to submit to the Romans and enhance Caesar's glory is unforgivable." — Martin Daniel

This tweet is a black cloud on Martin Daniel’s character. Ali’s “failure to enlist” was heroic and courageous https://t.co/vUWaOurcOt

Ironically, Martin Daniel’s tweet shows how much character he lacks, as he waited until Ali’s death to publicly criticize the world famous humanitarian. Tweets like this remind us that the causes Ali fought for were very necessary for that time, and are still necessary today.
