Soccer in the United States is slowly, but surely becoming more popular thanks to Copa America Centenario. Will it help them get the winning bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
In a press conference before the US Men’s national team faces Colombia in the third place game, U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati is keeping his fingers crossed for the country to possibly host the World Cup in 2026.
“We hope [this Copa America] influences where the 2026 World Cup will be, but that one hasn’t been decided,” said Gulati at a press conference on Friday.
The United States lost a bid for 2022 to Qatar and Galati wants change in the bidding process before they decided to place another bid due to the corruption scandal. With Copa America drawing some major crowds in NFL stadiums, the U.S. has a good chance of being able to host their first World Cup since 1994.
