In what could easily be included in the ‘Knockout of the Year’ category, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson needed only four rounds to dismiss challenger Thomas Williams Jr. Friday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike.
Making his first ring appearance since September 2015, Stevenson took control early in round one by dropping Williams with a ferocious overhand left. Surviving the count, Williams rose to his feet and escaped the round. Regrouping in round two, Williams battled back and found limited success connecting with sporadic uppercuts and wide looping rights. As action continued into the third and forth rounds, Williams ultimately found himself out classed by Stevenson’s brutal body work and huge over hand lefts. With time running out in the forth, Stevenson launched a blood curdling left hand that sent Williams face down to the canvas never to rise again.
With the win, Stevenson improves his record 28-1-0 and retains the WBC light heavyweight title. In the post-fight interview Stevenson shouted out his daughter but didn’t call out anyone named Kovalev.
