McGregor-Diaz I was one of the first examples of what would become a year of crazy UFC upsets. It has been a year of fighters pulling out last second, underdogs landing improbable 1st round KOs and championships changing hands like dollar bills.
Nate became a mainstream star overnight, appearing on ESPN and other network shows, while Conor stepped back from the fame that he embraced during 2015. McGregor poured everything into training, to the detriment of the UFC 200 card, and vowed to avenge his loss. Conor’s face in the UFC 202 promo says it all.
The look in Conor’s eyes is a familiar one. The fire that once carried him to the top of the featherweight division looks reignited. Conor returns to his comfortable roll as the hunter, not the hunted.
Will it be enough to defeat Nate Diaz? We will find out on August 20th.
