Since the Lotto’s creation there have been countless stories of winners blowing through funds with no long term plan only to become broke again. Ronnie Music Jr., a winner from Georgia, had the right and wrong idea at the same time to extend his riches.
According to the New York Post, Music is facing life in prison after authorities discovered he invested part of his $3 million in lottery winnings into a crystal meth drug ring. In what is likely a deal for a lesser sentence, the Atlanta-based winner entered a plea of guilty to federal drug trafficking and gun charges. During the course of discovery investigators uncovered that Music conspired with others to buy and sell kilograms of crystal meth in Ware County, Ga. and elsewhere
“Defendant Music decided to test his luck by sinking millions of dollars of lottery winnings into the purchase and sale of crystal meth. As a result of his unsound investment strategy, Music now faces decades in a federal prison,” US Attorney Ed Tarver said.
Federal agents seized more than $1 million worth of meth, an arsenal of firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, multiple cars, and more than $600,000 in cash as part of the case.
