Doc Rivers has hit a new low with this one, instead of just owning up to the fact that teams listen to offers.
The fact is, whether its Rivers and the Clippers shopping the power forward, or other organizations showing their own interest, the idea that there haven’t been discussions about moving Griffin is absurd.
During a sit down with Adrian Wojnarowski on The Vertical Podcast, Rivers stated that people should get the notion of Griffin not being in L.A. out of their mind.
On the subject of rumors and reporting, Rivers blasted “bloggers” and so-called online media for their sketchy journalism.
“First off, no teams are calling right now, because teams know we have no interest,” the Clippers’ president and coach told The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
“It just shows you the different times,” he said. “Everyone believes that they’re media now. There’s so many good credible (reporters), and then there’s some of the guys who are bloggers who have nothing to do with the sport.”
Rivers was focused on alleged rumors that had Griffin on his way to the Boston Celtics. Rivers admitted he had conversations Celts president Danny Ainge — it just didn’t involve basketball.
“Danny and I have talked twice this summer,” he said. “One time was about the British Open, and one was about another golf tournament.”
Rivers went on to say that he hopes Griffin ends his career with the Clippers, but it isn’t fair for him to label “bloggers” as the source of bad rumors, when most mainstream reporters and columnist are pushing that narrative — such as this Sporting News article.
Add in Griffin’s impending free agency — both he and Chris Paul have opt out clauses, and you can see where Rivers frustration is coming from.
