You may not know her yet but the amazing Vashti Cunningham could be a household name like her father very soon. Earlier today,Cunningham clinched a Rio Olympic berth in the high jump at the young age of 18. According to Olympic.nbc.sports.com, this makes Cunningham the youngest U.S. Olympian in this sport in 36 years.
Vashti is making her own athletic claim to fame as her father Randle Cunningham did for many years in the NFL. On Sunday Vashti finished second to Chaunté Lowe who has been on three Olympic teams.
After clearing 1.99 meters at the U.S. indoor championship in March, Vashti was viewed as the favorite for Rio until watching Lowe clear that same 1.99 meters today. Vashti has an extremely bright future ahead of her.
