The creators of Pokemon Go understand what injustice is and are trying to help the world recognize injustice too. The creators of the the hit game have added a special Pokestop at the location where Tamir Rice was shot and killed by police in 2014.
When Pokemon Go players travel to the Cudell gazebo in Cleveland,Ohio, a Pokestop with this message will appear:
Community memorial for Tamir Rice, shot and killed by CPD officers who shot him in under 2s after breaking department policy regarding escalation of force.”
This is a brilliant use of augmented reality to speak on social issues and educate people on injustice. Traveling to the location where the killing occurred can lead to further discussions about the issues with race and policing, since many other Pokemon Go players will travel to the same location.
To this day, the Cudell gazebo does not have any memorial or description of the events that took Tamir Rice’s life, so this Pokestop will serve to inform visitors about the tragedy.
