Brianna Rollins won the gold in the 110 meter hurdles with a near perfect race. Rollins and her US teammates swept the hurdles finishing 1-2-3, the first time that has ever happened in Olympic hurdles history.
Rollins’ teammates Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin took silver and bronze which continues the trend of beautiful black women doing amazing things at this year’s Olympics. During the medal ceremony, one of the committee presenters greeted Rollins on the podium and let the entire world know that Black Girls Rock.
This was a great moment especially considering all of the scrutiny black women athletes face while competing in sports. From Gabby Douglas to Serena, the criticism is always unfair and always disproportionate, so saying Black Girls Rock is just a way of saying you are loved and appreciated for your talents, and there is nothing wrong with that.
