According to ESPN.com’s Kevin Seifert, CFL Commissioner Jeffrey Orridge is all ears on bringing the troubled QB to play for the league. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats own Manziel’s exclusive negotiating rights, and Orridge doesn’t intend to micromanage if they make an attempt to sign the former Texas A&M and Cleveland Brown’s QB.
I rely primarily on the assessment of the team. It is their charge to evaluate the talent and to bring that talent forward. To be candid, if there is a situation that we believe warrants additional input, we certainly want to provide that to the team. We’re obviously charged with making sure that the integrity of the league and the integrity of our brand is perpetuated.
Personally, I think this would be a smart move for Manziel, he’s still a NFL free agent and if any NFL team would take a risk in signing him I’m pretty sure he would face some type of suspension for his actions off the field. Going to the CFL would be a fresh start for Manziel, he can show teams he can still play and become a better person off the field as well. The CFL has done wonders for some notable Quarterbacks, Hall of Famer Warren Moon and Jeff Garcia played in the CFL before going to the NFL so it’s no shame in taking that route.
