Kaepernick’s reasoning is valid and more to the point as an American he has the right to express it. He isn’t doing anything illegal or against the rules.
He is allowed to make a choice and here is why he is making it via NFL.com.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game against Green Bay. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Kaepernick didn’t tell anyone what he was planning to do because he said he didn’t have to.
“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,” he said. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. … If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right.”
This is something athletes have been hesitant to do because the reasons he stated. He understands the backlash he is going to receive and he believes it is more important to take a stand.
That takes a lot of guts especially when your position isn’t secure on a team and you play in a league where they will blackball players.
We will see how it all shakes out.
