For those who think Kaepernick just woke up one day and planned this he did not.
He has a real issue with how minorities are treated in this country and has made a stand about it way before this story blew up.
Colin Kaepernick didn't stand for National Anthem in first 2 preseason games, either: few noticed because he wasn't in uniform, didn't play.

It was only when he was asked did he explain why he did it and his explanation makes perfect sense.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game against Green Bay. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
He made a choice and he wasn’t throwing it in anyone’s face, it was a personal choice and when asked why he explained.
That is all he has to do, he doesn’t need any approval from anyone.
