According to USA Today, Oscar Pistorius was hospitalized recently after suffering minor injuries to both of his wrists.
While correctional services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the Paralympian told authorities he had injured himself after falling out of bed, an inmate situated close to the hospital section told City Press that Pistorius had injured himself intentionally.
Two warders with knowledge of the hospital section said blades were subsequently found in Pistorius’ cell during a search yesterday afternoon.
Pistorius, however, denies that these injuries were part of an alleged suicide attempt.
The former track star was initially treated by medical staff at the Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria, and then transferred to Kalafong hospital, said Manelisi Wolela, another official at the department. Pistorius was returned to his cell on Saturday, and an investigation is underway.
“Oscar Pistorius denied speculations of a suicide attempt,” Wolela said in a text message to media.
Pistorius’ brother, Carl, also addressed the issue:
