Curiosity killed the cat and in Ezekiel Elliott’s case, earned a huge reprimand from the powers that be.
Elliott, a rookie Dallas Cowboys running back, made headlines last week when he took a sight seeing trip to a Seattle area marijuana dispensary before a preseason game against the Seahawks. Elliott reportedly did not purchase anything from the establishment but in the aftermath of the incident earned a thorough tongue lashing from team owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett.
Speaking out on the incident, Elliott told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he was merely curious.
“I was curious. I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong. I wasn’t breaking any laws or anything. It was a bad decision. It was something I shouldn’t have done. But I know now. … You definitely got to think of the perception of things before you actually do certain things. It may not seem like a big deal to you yourself but there is a bigger picture. It’s definitely a learning experience about the scrutiny. You just got to be careful and not give anyone a chance to say anything.”
From here forward the focus on Elliott will be razor sharp. It’s fair to say trips to Amsterdam are likely out of the question for the foreseeable future.
