Marijuana in sports has always been a big deal. As the progression to decriminalize marijuana has made progress, the drug has become less of a problem in the US. But in sports it still seems to be a no-go, as Dallas Cowboys rookie RB Ezekiel Elliot turned some heads as he was caught in a marijuana dispensary before a preseason game a couple of days ago.
Now former NBA player John Salley during an interview with TMZ says he supports medical marijuana, and said he believed it would had help prolong his career if he would had been a consumer of the drug when he was playing in the NBA. He also speaks on how he feels college athletes who’s getting in trouble for small amounts of marijuana is “ridiculous.”
I am a proponent and I believe in the advocacy of medical marijuana. We see football players in Alabama getting busted. We see – we need to get it out. We need to move it and realize that is something that can help the human body.
It helps athletes. I didn’t start smoking until my last two months before I was a pro. And I believe if I would’ve smoked while I was playing, I probably still would be playing.
