The memory of Phife Dawg will continue to be immortalized in the streets of New York thanks to Mayor Bill de Blasio.
According to Okayplayer.com, the Queens intersection of Linden Blvd. and 192nd St. will be renamed after the late Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor. Phife’s management confirmed the news to Okayplayer via text.
“Just wanted to let every one know that the New York mayors office just called me and said the mayor is signing the bill to co-name Linden Blvd @192 to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor way on 8/3 at 10am at City Hall, Lower Manhattan.”
Fans launched a petition in March on Change.org seeking to rename a stretch of Linden Boulevard in Queens in honor of late rapper. Fans were devastated when Taylor, a founding member of hip hop super group A Tribe Called Quest, died at age 45 on March 22, 2016 from complications relating to diabetes.
