The inaugural New York City UFC card was expected to be one of the biggest events in MMA history but Dana White decided to give it every chance to hold the title of “greatest cards ever.”
An event already featuring 2 title fights was made even larger with the addition of a champion vs champion bout between featherweight Conor McGregor & lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
The news was originally reported via Twitter.

Conor will try to become only the 3rd fighter in history to hold titles in two separate UFC weight classes, B.J. Penn & Randy Couture being the others, and he’d be the first to hold two titles simultaneously.
Even with a recent loss to Nate Diaz, people will propel Conor into the G.O.A.T. conversation with a victory. Will it be premature, sure, but it will be a narrative Conor will use to his advantage. McGregor is all about the money and holding two belts only increases his asking price.
Dana White isn’t worried about how much his has to pay Conor Mac. Dana was the first to sing the praises of the card he was able to assemble for UFC 205.
“This is the fight the fans wanted, and I’m excited that our very first event at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez defending the lightweight title against Conor McGregor,” White told ESPN. “This card has three world title fights and is the best card in UFC history.”
Nights like these are why Madison Square Garden is known as The Mecca of fighting.
