The ex-news anchor, and current owner of the Alaskan Cannabis Club; who famously uttered the words “f*ck it, I quit”, on-air while leaving her job to focus on the legalization & business of marijuana in Anchorage, Alaska, is finding herself in some pretty hot water after being brought up on drug charges.
28-year old Charlo Greene is facing 24 years in prison after cops raided her Cannabis Club multiple times and made “undercover” purchases.
Via The Guardian:
Greene quickly became a full-time cannabis advocate, working to help Alaskans access pot after the state became the third in the US to legalize recreational pot in November 2014.
But despite the voter-approved initiative, Alaska has not helped her start a legitimate marijuana operation. On the contrary, the state launched a series of undercover operations and raids at her club, ultimately charging her with eight serious criminal offenses of “misconduct involving a controlled substance”.
If convicted, she could face 24 years behind bars.
“It’s almost dizzying when you try to make sense of it,” Greene said in an exclusive interview with the Guardian about her upcoming trial. “It could literally cost me the rest of my adult life.”
Make no mistake, Greene is being charged under an outdated law. This is a case of a perfectly sane, contributor to society, (Black Woman) being threatened with an obscene jail sentence for doing nothing more than capitalizing on a clear, and rational business, which is making people rich every single day.
The argument of “but it wasn’t legal when they raided her” is completely foolish and anyone who takes that stance needs to have their sanity examined. To go to prison for 1, 3, or 24 years under outdated laws is ridiculous.
The judge should throw this sentence out, if for nothing else; for common sense.
We all know how the justice system in the United States operates, so for this young lady’s sake; let’s all hope the courts get this one right.
We’ll be watching and updating you accordingly.
