Allen Iverson’s induction and subsequent speech upon entering the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was a moving a memorable moment for anyone who watched on television or attended the event. While the induction may have been moving, the trophy itself may not as been as memorable as Iverson reportedly forgot the trophy at the hotel he visited while in town to receive the honor.
During Wednesday’s episode of the Toucher and Rich Show, a listener told the duo that AI forgot the trophy after he checked out of the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel and tweeted a picture to the Boston-based duo. Since the airing of the show, and endless trolling in social media, Fran Judkins, Senior Director of Professional Relations told TMZ.com the claim is not true. The trophy was left behind for shipping.
“About half of the players in the past 12 years have done this,” says Fran Judkins, Senior Director of Professional Relations.
“[Inductees] leave their trophies at the hotel so they don’t have to worry about taking them on a plane or traveling with the extra luggage.”
“The hotel staff knows about this, they call me and let me know when I can pick up the trophies to ship to their houses.”
“This is a very common thing to do. I also have another trophy that was left at the hotel.”
“No, Allen didn’t forget his trophy. That’s not the case.”
If it was my HOF trophy, I’d leave it behind for shipping too. Have you seen what they do to your bags on the tarmac?
