Former NBA star, and long-time Charlotte resident, Mugsy Bogues called into CNN’s At This Hour With Berman and Bolduan to discuss the riots that continue to rage in Charlotte following the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott by police.
An emotional Bogues discussed being affected on both sides of the protest, as a black man with family members who are active officers, what people need to do to end violence among each other and why he thinks an economic boycott isn’t the solution.
On protesting police shootings:
People are angry, I understand that. People in our neighborhoods want transparency they tired of our young men being gunned down. But you also have to look at the police side, they have to do our job.
We all just need to deal and heal each other. No color. We all human beings, it’s no color. We human beings. When are we going to get back to having human rights and being heard?
On an economic boycott by the black community:
What is that going to help? Not being able to go out there and feed your family. Not being able to go buy food. We just need a solution not being divided. We just need people to sit down.
We need to make lives better for everybody. We still divided. We need to find a solution that works for everybody, it’s not that difficult.
The sincerity in Bogues impassioned statements is clear but people are tired of talking and do not feel they are being treated as equals. How he proposes to achieve these candid conversations is unclear but what is clear is money always talks.
