Tyronn Lue is passing out Cav’s coaching offers like Oprah gives away cars.
After extending an open invite for Allen Iverson to join him on the coaching staff of the NBA’s defending champions, Coach Lue has now invited Kevin Garnett to join him on the Cavs bench.
Garnett, who announced his retirement just last week, is the latest to receive an invite to join Lue in Cleveland. While the Iverson invite may have been made in a joking manner, Lue is pretty serious about Garnett’s post-retirement career as a coach.
After practice Thursday, Lue said that the 21-year veteran is back and forth with the idea of coaching, stating:
He says he’s not ready yet. He goes back — ‘I might do it’ — but he’s back and forth. We’ll see. But I’d definitely make a spot for him if he wanted to come back and coach.
Lue further states that Garnett’s better half, Brandi, also wants him to give coaching a shot. Lue, who was an assistant coach of the Garnett-led Celtics, counts Garnett as one of his best friends and was rooting for him to play a 22nd season at age 40. Garnett would have been the first to play in the NBA in his teens, 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. Even without one last year, that’s quite a remarkable feat.
I guess when you win championships, you can put the whole crew on!
