Bruce Springsteen gave his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick and the Black Lives Matter movement. As you can imagine, it’s getting to be tiring hearing people bash Colin Kaepernick’s actions rather than the message he’s protesting.
Plenty of white people are upset with Colin Kaepernick and the Black Lives Matter movement. The rhetoric always chosen is, #AllLivesMatter, we’re dividing the country with this racism talk, simply racism doesn’t exist, just follow the rules and work hard or in Kaepernick’s case, stick to sports.
There are a few times when people come across with nuance, thoughtful answers to this and Bruce Springsteen is one of them.
Here’s what Springsteen had to say in a Rolling Stones interview,
“Sports is such an escapist field,” he said. “I think when politics or personal expression is injected, it rankles people more than in other fields. But we’re in a time where there isn’t any place where these issues can be excluded. I admire Kaepernick, but it’s a very difficult field to be outspoken in.”
Springsteen also talks about Black Lives Matter and says it is,
“a natural outgrowth and response to the injustices that have been occurring for a very long time in the United States.”
Bruce Springsteen understands where this is all coming from. Simply understanding can go a long way to getting to a solution. However, people want to live in their own oblivious world and not listen to the people who are experiencing this daily.
