Records are made to be broken but this is one I always felt would stand for a while. During the 1983 season, rookie running back and current Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson set the Rams backfield on fire. Dickerson led the NFL in rushing with 1,808 yards. This was more yards than many of the greats that were in the league during the 1983 season like Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett and Earl Campbell. This season, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is stealing everyone’s shine as he is on an unbelievable pace himself.
Elliott currently leads the league with 703 rushing yards and is on pace to edge Dickerson out and set a new rookie rushing record. Elliott has to keep this pace all season which could be difficult knowing that most rookies eventually hit a rookie wall but according to TheScore.com, Dickerson believes Elliott has what it takes to get it done.
“They have a great offensive line over there in Dallas. Dak Prescott is a great quarterback. He has a lot of upside and a lot of potential. He can keep that eight-and-nine man front off the line of scrimmage. But do I want Elliott to break that record? No, I don’t.”
Elliott needs to average 110.5 yards over the next 10 game to match Dickerson’s record.
