Fresh on the heels of Tupac’s nomination for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, hip hop received another huge pat on the back as Jay Z became the first rapper ever to receive a nomination for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Ever the skilled lyricist, Shawn Carter became eligible for entry in 2016, 20 years after the release of his classic debut, “Reasonable Doubt.”
The Songwriters Hall of Fame is “dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create music around the world.” It’s safe to say that Hov has definitely left his mark on the world of hip hop; rising from a young Brooklyn rapper to arguably one of the best to ever do it. Not one to limit himself, Jay Z was ventured into other areas of entrepreneurship with nightclubs, NBA teams, sports agencies, and streaming company, Tidal.
Voters will have until December 16 to decide if the 47-year old hip hop mogul is deserving of entry into the 2017 class.
