Has Mike D’Antoni found his perfect team?
During the mid-2000s, Mike D’Antoni’s Phoenix Suns ushered in the run-and-gun style of basketball, that the Golden State Warriors have taken to another level.
After disasters with the Knicks and Lakers, D’Antoni believes he’s reincarnated, with a roster that has him dreaming fo the old Suns fast break.
D’Antoni told USA Today that he has a team reminiscent of those suns teams with Steve Nash at the point.
“We were able to upgrade our shooting — that’s something that’s been on me over the past few years, that for the style we play I don’t feel we’ve had enough shooting,” Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said. “We’re very excited about what (D’Antoni) brings, (and) the fact the way Mr. (Leslie) Alexander, myself and the players want to play all fit into what he’s been honing for a very long coaching career, a very successful career.”
“That’s why I love coming here. From the owner, to the general manager, to myself, to the players, we’re all on the same page — we want to play this way,” he said. “And it’s been proven this way. The stats come in, and we say, ‘Hey, this is how we need to play.’ I don’t have to argue or talk or hope they believe it.”
Harden is nash of course, and GM Daryl Morey did a great job of spacing the floor and giving The Beard all the shooters he needs with names like — Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon.
Houston will be league pass heaven for NBA fans looking to catch a late game, but I’m sure giving up 100 points per game can get you to the Finals.
