Kanye West’s Gold Digger still gets a lot of airtime when at the club but if you ask Nicki Minaj about it, she’ll tell you how she truthfully feels about it. Minaj sounded off while being interviewed by magazine Marie Claire.
Double standards is something that many of us fight on a daily basis. Nicki Minaj sounded off on one that many probably are too scared to speak about. The rapper is gracing the cover of Marie Claire magazine and touched upon one topic that will make your mind think.
“I’m so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they’re going to leave them for a woman of a different race,” Nicki shared with the magazine. “It wasn’t funny when Kanye said [in his 2005 hit ‘Gold Digger’], ‘When he get on, he’ll leave your a– for a white girl’ — and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now. It wasn’t funny when he said it; it was the f—— truth.”
If you really think about it, she’s speaking the truth. But she didn’t just make this about black women, she made this point about all women.
“Nowadays, I feel like [young women] see marrying into money — I think that’s a big thing now. I don’t want that to be a woman’s goal in life,” Nicki explained, before offering some sage advice for what women should be striving towards. “I want your goal in life to be to become an entrepreneur, a rich woman, a career-driven woman. You have to be able to know that you need no man on this planet at all, period, and he should feel that, because when a man feels that you need him, he acts differently.”
Strive for greatness, ladies. Minaj is giving advice for free.
