BSO had the privilege of covering the 2016 Revolt Music Conference for the first time this past weekend. The 3rd annual RMC began Thursday, October 13 with the #BeHeard networking session and concluded with Sunday’s film festival. The conference, held at Eden Roc Resort in Miami, was chock full of panels, performances, networking opportunities, pitch sessions, and pool parties.
With the #BeHeard networking session and auditions, artists were given the opportunity to showcase their talent and receive feedback from some of the best in the industry. Several heavy hitters and movers and shakers took the stage throughout the day to participate in panels covering a multitude of subjects. Julie Greenwald (Chairman and COO of Atlantic Records) served as the keynote speaker while panelists included Kenny Burns (SVP of Marketing at Combs Enterprises), Mathew Knowles (CEO of Music World Entertainment), Tahiry (Social Media Maven & Entrepreneur), Cardi B (Artist & Cast of Love & Hip Hop New York), Lenny S (SVP, A&R, Artist Management at Roc Nation), DJ EFN (Drink Champs podcast), Meagan Good (Actress), Necole Kane (XONecole), and Shawn Barron (VP of Urban A&R at Atlantic Records).
Other Friday highlights included a live broadcast of the Breakfast Club morning show hosted by Angela Yee and DJ Envy. Additionally, the #AskDiddy Q & A session that was held during the first two conferences was replaced by #AskKhaled. The Eden Roc hotel pool was live all day long on Friday and Saturday with performances by Lajan Slim, Ayo Jay, Jahkoy, Trap Beckham, Prospectt, CymcoLé, 99 JAMZ, DJ Hannah Rad, Cardi B, Dreezy, and Keke Palmer.
Friday night was capped off by the Apple Music Yacht Party where the crowd enjoyed performances by DJ Khaled, Nas, Ja Rule, Jadakiss, Trina, Dave East, and Kent Jones.
Saturday brought even more highly informative panels including the Congressional Countdown and The Rise of the Podcast, which was hilariously crashed by Noreaga. All day poolside entertainment was ultimately rained out after performances by Dreezy and Cardi B.
Guests headed inside where some enjoyed a VIP gala honoring rap legend Nas with the Jimmy Iovine Icon Award. Gala attendees dined and enjoyed performances by Kehlani and Bibi Bourelly, as well as a surprise appearance by Nas’ daughter Destiny. There was so much star power in the room that the power went out during Diddy’s speech. Of course that stopped nothing and Nas graced the stage to humbly accept his award.
This year’s conference concluded on Sunday with a film festival which showcased films by up and coming filmmakers and actors. Once again, Diddy and Revolt TV managed to put on a fun, informative conference that offered a multitude of networking opportunities as well as informative panels that offered attendees a chance to get advice from the best in the industry.
We had a great time and look forward to next year’s event.
