A California church is being investigated by health officials to determine if a Thanksgiving meal is to blame for the death of three attendees and leaving 5 additional guests severely ill.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the meal was served at the Antioch American Legion Hall and hosted by Golden Hills Community Church for local area homeless and senior citizens. Following the dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans, 8 of the event’s 835 attendees, who all resided in the same facility, fell severely ill with three perishing.
Contra Costa Health Department officials are still unclear on what caused the illness. Officials told the Times there was not a threat to the general public.
