A Kirkland, Washington resident of the Seattle Seahawks took his fandom to the next level in an extravagant Christmas light display dedicated to the team. Unfortunately for the resident his neighbors do not share his enthusiasm and have ordered the display taking down.
According to Seattle Times, the “Hawk House” has come under fire from neighbors who are fed up with the noise and traffic from car and bus loads of onlookers and the excessive amount of flashing lights (175K of them). Last year the home owner Anthony Mish was asked by the City of Kirkland to decrease the display (go dark a couple nights a week, reduce volume on accompanying music) in an effort to appease neighbors. Although Mish has complied, the crowds keep coming.
Wish told the Times he was bummed at the prospect of going dark.
The setup for the whole display took over 400 hours, he said, with an additional 200 hours spent opening the house to the public and 150 hours to take it all down.
The neighbors’ complaints, after all that work, left Mish depressed. He says he timed how long it took to get to his house when there was no display versus going through traffic during the holidays when the house was lighted up. He calculated a delay of about two minutes.
