Not today, not ever.
If you’ve received an email from retired NBA star Dikembe Mutombo asking for money, delete it immediately. He’s not traveling and he’s not broke.
According to Deadspin, Mutombo’s email was hacked by an unidentified source who then sent out emails to random people requesting money. No word on how many people actually thought the 7’2 former center for the Houston Rockets needed money and accommodated the request but one recipient thought it better to ask questions before shelling out some dough.
Once Mutumbo was made aware of the scam, he took to instagram to clear up any confusion and assure fans he was safe and not in need of money.
Hello everyone. If you get an email says it’s from Dikembe Mutombo, that i’m asking you for money from Philippines it’s not me, do not answer. Do not answer the email. My email was hacked by these crazy people, I don’t know why. They need to get a life. THANK YOU!
Should we consider it racist that scammers chose Mutombo as the face of their operation?
