In an interview with Maurice Peebles of Complex Sports, rising Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis talks about music, politics and speaking Spanish. Among the interesting answers from Porzingis was his response to the recent presidential election. Though he admits he is not informed on all the issues and generally stays away from politics, he did say we need to give Trump a chance. His rationale was, he was booed on draft day but it seems to be working out well. See his full answer:
Honestly, I didn’t follow it that much. I don’t really know the positive things and the negative things that this whole thing has but, anyway, you have to give him a chance, you know? People are saying like [the] same thing with me—they booed me at first, you know? [Laughs.] So you never know. You know, you have to give him a chance. [But] I don’t try to get involved in the political things too much, that can only cause trouble for me.
The interview was mostly light and Porzingis discussed his love of Future. He was asked if he played baseball what would his walk up music be.
Oooh, that’s a tough one. I would really, really have to think about it. Something aggressive to get me hype before the game. Maybe something from Future.
Porzingis seems like a good young kid and he simply answered a question he was asked. Also, being that he is from Latvia I have no issues with his opinion and the answer.
However I will say being booed by Knicks fans because they doubt your ability to play hoops is one thing. Having someone completely unqualified as the leader of the free world is something different. But, this is where we are. The Knicks drafted Porzingis and their fans will have to live with it. So far, so good. America has elected Donald Trump and a nation gets the government it deserves. So far, so…
