Mark Cuban has said in the past that Russell Westbrook wasn’t a superstar, because he was Kevin Durant’s sidekick.
Russ is now the main man and averaging a triple double, but Cuban still doesn’t see him as a superstar and he explains why.
He’s putting up superstar numbers. That’s for damn sure,” Cuban said of Westbrook, who entered Friday night’s game again the? Houston Rockets?averaging 31.0 points, 11.3 assists and 10.9 rebounds per game. “I’m not taking anything away from what he’s been able to accomplish, but I’m not going to change my definition. He’s putting superstar numbers. You can’t deny that.”
Cuban definition of a superstar is one that can single-handedly drag an average team to the playoffs, something Westbrook couldn’t do when Kevin Durant was hurt.
“That’s no disrespect to Russell,” Cuban said. “He’s been a beast. Few have done what he’s done, but I’ll stick by my definition. I’m not saying that he’s not going to prove me wrong and that he [won’t be] a superstar by the end of the year. That’s fine, but I’ll stick by my definition.”
We will see if Westbrook can indeed lead the Thunder as a solo act to the playoffs.
