After initially taking a completely unfair stance saying the Cleveland Browns & Tennessee Titans wouldn’t be able to play in their individually customized cleats simply because they were on bye weeks; the NFL is backpedaling, now saying the players will be able to partake in the #MyCauseMyCleats festivities as well.
I’m not sure why the players on these teams were ever going to be denied the right to wear customized cleats like their peers league-wide, however; the NFL was eventually correct to make the change.
Titans DB Jason McCourty spoke on the NFL’s decision to make the situation right:
The NFL loves giving it’s players things to gripe about.
This is yet, another example of how the NFL is behind the times in many cases; unlike the bustling NBA which seems to have become more player-centric (as well as successful) than it’s ever been before. I can’t imagine this ever even being an issue in basketball, but again; the NFL seems to be dead set on positioning themselves against the players, instead on being proactive with their relations.
It’s silly that not allowing teams the same “luxuries”, simply because their on a bye week everyone knew was coming for months & months ever even needed to be spoken about.
