It’s been almost 10 years since Michael Vick was convicted for illegal dog fighting that he ran on his property. The ex-NFL quarterback served his time and even came back to play football again. Now, a petition wants to keep him away from being honored at Sunday’s Falcons-Saints game.
These online petitions are something else. On Sunday’s Falcons-Saints game, Michael Vick is expected to be honored during halftime and once that got out, someone created a petition on change.org because they don’t want him honored. What’s miraculous is the fact that in less than 24 hours, the petition has generated over 10,000 signatures and their goal is 15,000. It most likely will have zero influence but here’s what the fans have to say.
For over six years, Michael Vick ran a dogfighting operation in Virginia where he personally tortured and killed dogs without hesitation, without fear of reprisal, and without remorse.
In 2007, he pleaded guilty in a federal dogfighting investigation. He was suspended from the NFL for violation of the league’s personal-conduct policy. He served 21 months in prison and two months on house arrest for his crimes.
By inviting Michael Vick to participate in a ceremony on Sunday, the Falcons are honoring a convicted dogfighter who profited from cruelty to animals for years.
Please sign this petition and let the Falcons know that NFL fans do not support Vick and do not condone his actions.
Vick’s actions hurt him a lot in every way but the man has apologized and also served time for his actions. Why are folks still going after him with such demeanor?
Vick desires to retire as a Falcon, which most likely occur sometime next year. It’s time to move on from something that happened a decade ago.
