President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter to target Atlanta as a “crime infested” area that is in “horrible shape.”
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results,” Trump said in a pair of Twitter messages ahead of the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations. “All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!”
He made the comments in response to Rep. John Lewis, who told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he will skip the inauguration next week.
In response, Atlanta residents began flooding social media with photos of their fifth district neighborhoods using a variety of hashtags including #defendthe5th.
Congrats to #Atlanta – just proclaimed by the president-elect as "crime-infested" and in "horrible shape."
Don't guess he'll be stopping by. pic.twitter.com/YFmcbx2x9I— jnbeatlefan (@jnbeatlefan) January 14, 2017
