The HEAT have announced that Justice Winslow will now miss the rest of the season due to shoulder surgery that will take place on Thursday according to the Sun Sentinel. Winslow apparently tore is labrum in his right shoulder after he got tangled up with Al Horford according to head coach Erik Spoelstra.
“It was that last tangle up with Horford,” he said. “I didn’t like the way it looked as I saw it. And then, talking him on the plane afterwards, I didn’t like how he was describing it.”
It’s already been a trying season for the HEAT. Injuries have decimated the roster. They are now 10-26 and had just 8 active players on Tuesday against the Suns. Many are looking to see what magic Pat Riley can muster before the trade deadline, but let’s be honest guys. There is none. There is nothing to do from here but rebuild from the draft and free agency.
It may be a hard pill to swallow, but the silver lining is that it isn’t the first time the organization has faced such a dismal outlook for the near future. While it may be tough for fans to face going back 4 consecutive finals, where they won two, the sliver of hope rests in Riley’s ability to rejuvenate the organization through his cunning and eye for talent.
The HEAT have a talented, young roster, and while it’s hard to have patience and watch players develop, it’s really the only option. It’s not always a #1 pick that’s needed. The organization will most likely land a top choice in the 2017 draft, and we’ve seen what Riley can do with a #3 pick.
